North West Indoor Softball Season finds Success at New Venue
Thu 16 Dec 2021
This autumn, the BaseballSoftballUK development team in the North West successfully trialled a brand new North West Indoor Softball League, including teams and players from Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.
The North West Series softball tournaments have taken place in the summer over the past fours years and have grown from one-day-tournament over three dates to two separate one-day tournaments (for both Rec and Comp levels) over three weekends. The tournaments have attracted teams from all over the North of England, with a few Scottish players joining in as well!
The League
The North West Softball - Indoor season took place every Saturday from 1-3 PM at The Soccer Factory in Rochdale, a great venue providing quality astroturf pitches, a bar and excellent facilities.
From the beginner of October until the start of December, the four founding teams played a total of 24 games, with "Simon says..." grabbing the first ever title with 48 points!

Tournaments
The BSUK team also ran two tournaments during the Autumn, providing a break from league play. The Single Sex tournament saw eight teams compete, with the Wetcox taking the Female trophy and Fast as Fook Boys taking the Male award.
The Indoor season ended last week with another tournament, this time with mixed teams, with eight squads from as far afield as Sheffield. The Meerkats took the first ever NWS Tournament trophy in the Comp division while Maelstrom (University of Manchester) returned to their halls of residence with the Rec award.
Luis Arrevillagas, BSUK North West Development Manager, was thrilled with the inaugural indoor season, saying, "We were thrilled with how many people were so eager to participate in the league, and from so many places. A huge thank you to all those who made this season a success - we can't wait for the Winter fixtures!"
The BaseballSoftballUK Development team would also like to thank all captains and umpires and, of course, Linni Mitchell for helping us trial this new exciting project.
Winter Season 2022
The Winter Season is scheduled to start on Saturday, 5th February, playing the same format as in the Autumn. The first three weeks will feature league play, followed by another Single-Sex and Mix tournament to finish off the season.
