FUNdamental sessions a hit; New sessions start 20 September!
Wed 16 Sep 2020
After a long layoff from baseball and softball due to COVID-19 – the longest drought recorded in the North West in at least five years - the BaseballSoftballUK development team launched a five-week block of sessions for Juniors and FUNdamental sessions for new adult and developing players in Manchester and Liverpool.
Following the Government’s approval of BSUK’s Return to Play plan, each of the sessions was organised, promoted and planned to follow strict coronavirus guidelines. The baseball and softball Junior session are aimed at ages eight to 14 and has attracted more than 20 participants each Sunday to Urmston Sports Club.
The FUNdamental sessions are aimed at adults (ages 14+) and focus on introducing new players to the sports while developing fundamental techniques for more advanced players. Each session is 1.5 hour long and take place in the following locations:
- Saturdays at the Liverpool Trojans Baseball Club field, with thanks to Ian Blease from the Trojans
- Sundays in Manchester at Urmston Sports Club in partnership with Al Bruce’s Urmston Rippers softball club.
BSUK’s Luis Arrevillagas, North West Development Manager, commented on the layoff, and the resumption of play, stating: “It’s hard to describe what it felt like for us to have the last five months without playing and/or coaching our sports. We’re happy to be able to bring an opportunity for people to go outdoor, get active and have fun in these uncertain times.”
Meanwhile, BSUK coach Linni Mitchell said, “We’re so glad to be back on the field. To see how many people have joined us and the fun they’re having makes it all worthwhile.”
One of the participants in the Liverpool FUNdamental sessions, Gina, shared her feedback on the sessions: “Thank you so much for bringing the Fundamentals to Liverpool. I was really impressed by the quality of coaching and structure of the sessions. Having not done sports since university/school, starting something new was a bit daunting but I think these sessions are ideal for picking up the all-important basics, and gaining confidence in a supportive setting.”
The first five week sessions have just finished in Manchester and there will be another group of sessions starting on the 20th September.
