COVID-19 Update from BaseballSoftballUK
Tue 17 Mar 2020
In light of the ongoing effects of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and following the Government’s latest advice, issued yesterday 16 March, BaseballSoftballUK has taken the decision to suspend all of its national programmes and events until 30 April 2020.
This decision also affects events being run independently at our Farnham Park Baseball & Softball Complex which is closed to the public, including for training sessions. Our Home Plate Bar and Kitchen clubhouse will also shut effectively immediately.
The list of baseball and softball programmes and events across the UK run by BaseballSoftballUK that have been suspended from today, Tuesday 17 March until 30 April 2020, includes the following:
- All Academy & High Performance Academy sessions, including Closing Day and Testing, in various locations
- All Indoor Softball Leagues in Manchester and London
- All Regional University Baseball and Softball Leagues and activity, in various locations
- Slowpitch Softball Academy scheduled for 21 March at Farnham Park
- Manchester Indoor Softball Single-Sex Tournament scheduled for 21 March at FIVES Trafford
- Slowpitch Pitching Clinic scheduled for 22 March at Farnham Park
- National University Softball Championship scheduled for 28-29 March at Farnham Park
- North West Series 1 scheduled for 18-19 April in Manchester
- National University Baseball Championship scheduled for 25-26 April at Farnham Park
We appreciate this will cause disappointment for our playing community. However, we have taken this decision in line with government advice in order to prioritise customers’ safety and that of our staff and coaches.
We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and keep you fully updated of all changes as they occur. Please follow BaseballSoftballUK on social media and check our website for any updates.
During the coming days, our Staff will be in contact with athletes and/or event organisers to discuss next steps. If you have any questions or concerns about a specific programme or event, please contact your BaseballSoftballUK Event Organiser/Lead in the first instance.
Thank you for your support and understanding during these unprecedented and challenging times. We will work to resume baseball and softball activities as soon as we are able to do so safely.
Finally, during this disruption, Sport England has encouraged those who are able to remain active during this time to do so:
“The coronavirus crisis is unprecedented in modern times and it could have a significantly negative impact on the nation’s physical activity levels.
We don’t want that to happen, so we'll do everything we can to support people to get and stay active – provided they are well enough.
That’s because physical activity matters during this period and, actually, we think it’s more important than ever right now.
Being active in a way that is right for you, can improve your physical health, help manage stress and anxiety and just generally make you feel better.
Official advice is now recommending against non-essential contact and all unnecessary travel - including working from home if you can - which means our routines are going to be changing.
So as you now find yourself spending more time at home, and if you feel well, there's a wealth of free online content to help you get active – we're collating some of this and are encouraging people to share some of the best ideas they find online using #StayInWorkOut.”
