BaseballSoftballUK combines University Conference with Coach Summit
Fri 24 Nov 2017
BaseballSoftballUK has announced that its University Baseball & Softball Conference will run alongside the third annual BSUK Coach Summit on 27 January 2018 in Milton Keynes.
The decision to combine the conferences comes after a very strong turnout from university students at the BSUK Coach Summit in January 2017.
The University Baseball & Softball Conference will take place from 1.00-5.00 pm on the day. The conference will be free for students to attend and they will be able to complete the Drills for Beginners practical training course (normal cost £30) and attend several university-specific workshop discussions.
In addition, for the special price of £50, university conference attendees will have access to the morning sessions at the BSUK Coach Summit (normal cost: £80.00), which will feature inspiring and insightful speakers such as Team Canada Women’s Softball Head Coach Mark Smith and San Francisco University Dons baseball Head Coach Nino Giarratano. Lunch is also included in the Coach Summit ticket.
Combination
BSUK Development Manager Patrick Knock said, “We’re excited to be able to host the University Baseball & Softball Conference on the same day as the Coach Summit, which presents a great opportunity for students leading our sports at universities to gain a wealth of knowledge, insight and best coaching practice. Our students will be able to learn a great deal from the experienced speakers at the Summit, and will have a chance to network with other coaches from across the UK, something we always encourage our students to do.”
Some Student Unions offer financial support to cover the cost of students undertaking coach education, so BaseballSoftballUK has drafted a letter that students can print out and submit to their Student Union to access a bursary. Students needing further assistance to obtain funding should speak to their local BSUK Development Manager about a bursary.
Growth
Baseball and softball have seen significant growth in the past five or six years in the university sector through the work of BaseballSoftballUK, and partnerships have developed between university staff and student volunteers and local baseball/softball clubs that can provide coaching resource and an additional opportunity for students to play the sports.
The student volunteers who will attend the University Baseball & Softball Conference play a crucial role in growing the number of people playing at their institutions, which is why the conference is regarded as so important by BaseballSoftballUK.
