Mon 28 Sep 2020

BaseballSoftballUK has appointed Chris Knoblock in the role of Public Relations Officer and Sports Broadcaster.

Personal history

Chris joined BaseballSoftballUK full time in May after working with the organisation on a contract basis during 2019. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Chris spent eight years working for professional sports teams and organisations, including clubs in the American Hockey League, the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, and the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. While with the New Britain Bees (ALPB), Chris served as the inaugural team broadcaster and communications director, as well as acting as traveling secretary and running the baseball operations department.

An avid baseball player from age eight up until university, Chris has been broadcasting baseball and ice hockey games for 12 years, including broadcasts from both Fenway Park and TD Garden in Boston.

In 2019, Chris worked extensively with BaseballSoftballUK during the London Series, working closely to deliver Major League Baseball events at Farnham Park Baseball & Softball Complex and even broadcast youth games from the MLB Cup London at the Play Ball Park by London Stadium. In addition, Chris worked closely on the launch of the Fun at Bat programme and on the Baseball’s Coming Home event at Walton-on-Thames, celebrating the first recorded game of baseball in 1749.

His role with the company includes managing communications and social media for the organisation, the creation and implementation of both commercial and communications campaigns, and broadcasting games, particularly those at Farnham Park. In addition, Chris will work closely with the baseball and softball community to highlight positive stories from around the country.

Comment

“Joining BaseballSoftballUK is the culmination of a long-term goal of mine, and I’m thrilled to join the team,” said Chris. “BaseballSoftballUK has presented me with a great opportunity to prove how much the UK loves baseball and softball, and I’m very excited for the challenge of growing the games!”

“We are very excited to have someone of Chris’ experience join the Commercial team,” added Head of Commercial Joelle Watkins. “Chris’ work at last year’s London Series and his previous involvement in North American professional sports gives him a unique perspective that we’re keen to take advantage of and channel to help grow the appeal of the sports in the UK!”
