Fri 15 Nov 2019
On Tuesday, 12 November 2019, the 2019 British Baseball Hall of Fame Class was announced, with Ryan Bird, Darrin Muller, Alan Asquith and BaseballSoftballUK’s own Jason Holowaty receiving the call. The announcement was made by Matt Smith, Chair of the British Baseball Hall of Fame.
BaseballSoftballUK would like to congratulate all four of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees on receiving British Baseball’s highest honor. In particular, BaseballSoftballUK would like to commend Academy Director Jason Holowaty on being recognized on for his passionate development of baseball not only in Britain, but across Europe and Africa.
Holowaty helped win four national championships as a player with Richmond (2006), the London Mets (2007, 2008), and the Southern Nationals (2011), finishing his playing career with a .423 lifetime batting average. Holowaty also represented Great Britain in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. Since 2002, Holowaty has also helped grow the game of baseball throughout the world, first working for Major League Baseball’s Europe, Middle East and Africa office running the EMEA Player Development Programme, and now as part of BaseballSoftballUK. During his time with MLB, Holowaty oversaw both the European and African Elite Development Camps, and over 100 European and African players signed MLB contracts during his tenure.
Holowaty was also the recipient of the Confederation of European Baseball’s Xavier Mateu Award for Excellence in 2017, celebrating his years of development work for both MLB and BSUK.
In his role with BaseballSoftballUK, Holowaty heads up the BaseballSoftballUK Academies as Academy Director, helping to grow BSUK’s premier offseason baseball and softball programmes. The Academies take place throughout the UK, with more than 100 participants each year. Under Jason’s guidance, both the baseball and softball academies have seen improved accessibility and instruction for players, along with increased overall participation.
“On behalf of BaseballSoftballUK, I’d like to congratulate all four members of this year’s Hall of Fame class,” said John Boyd, CEO of BaseballSoftballUK. “Being elected to the British Baseball Hall of Fame is a great honour, and these four individuals could not be more deserving. Having worked with Jason for many years, he has been a great contributor not only to BaseballSoftballUK, but to European and African Baseball, and I am thrilled for him to receive this recognition.”
The 2019 class is the 10th British Baseball Hall of Fame class, with 38 total members now inducted into the BBHOF since its inception in 2009. For more information about the British Baseball Hall of Fame, click here.
