Coach Education
Creating coaches
Training
There are many ways coaches can get involved in our sports whether you are new to coaching, have years of experience but are looking to get something formalised, or you would like to learn more on specific coaching topics, we have a suitable option for you. Please find full details of our BaseballSoftballUK Coach education programme in the Coaching section of our website.
Funding
As with any qualification, there are costs involved, but there is often funding to help with this through local partners including councils and Active Partnerships which your relationship manager can guide you through. You may also want to include coach training within wider funding bids and more information can be found on the Finances page.
Recruitment
We have sample role descriptions available for many volunteer roles including coaches, assistant coaches and talent-based coaches.
Keeping coaches
Incentives
Once a coach is recruited and trained, they are far more likely to stay and be high performing if they are provided with further opportunities and rewards. Our relationship managers can share examples of incentives clubs and leagues have offered their coaches and can guide you through the development opportunities available to coaches.
Coach Summit
One of the highlights of the coaching year is the BaseballSoftballUK Coach Summit. The Summit features keynote speeches from internationally recognised coaches, along with workshops and seminars. There is a focus towards baseball and fastpitch softball but the sessions relate to slowpitch softball coaches equally. With plenty of time to socialise and network, culminating in our Annual Coach Awards, there is no better way to build personal coaching contacts.
Mentoring opportunities
Another opportunity for coaches to develop themselves further is through BaseballSoftballUK’s Academy shadow coach programme. Whether it be through a mentorship programme or simply getting to work with some of the more experienced Academy coaches, a tenure at the BaseballSoftballUK Academy will definitely help coaches to broaden their experience.
Free webinars
We have some pre-recorded coaching webinars that will be of interest to coaches regardless of level. Our #GameReady programme launched during COVID-19, and featured a range of webinars including our very popular sessions on ‘Preventing pitching injuries’ by Bill Holmberg, and ‘Socially distant throwing’ by Will Lintern. You can view the full range of webinars in the #GameReady section of our website.
Partner resources
We can connect you with a range of partners including top quality UK coaching resources, and Active Partnership initiatives.
